Empowering Indigenous Women for Stronger Communities

“Empowering Indigenous Women for Stronger Communities” is a two-year project in partnership with the Louis Riel Institute (LRI) and the MMF – Metis Employment and Training Department (MET). The main objective of this project is to increase the number of Metis women who feel confident to run for public office and leadership positions. By enhancing their awareness and access to these positions in public institutions (Metis institutional bodies, school/health boards, municipal, provincial, and federal), IWS will help them acquire the tools they need to be more impactful leaders. Metis women have played a vital role in the re-emergence of the Metis Nation in Manitoba, but their participation in non-Metis public institutions is almost non-existent.

The Leadership Development Workshop focusing on the development of leadership skills initially planned for March 2020 in Gimli, Manitoba, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Please contact IWS for further details.
